Car DVD SRS Safety Restraint Active Headrests System Information

Welcome to Parkmyauto Ltd Edinburgh, Scotland and UK wide suppliers and nationwide installers of car DVD headrests and car roof mounted DVD players.

We have recently been asked to provide information on the recent introduction of vehicle safety restraint system (SRS) active headrests systems which have been introduced into recent Audi, BMW, Landrover, Mercedes, Porsche, Range Rover and VW vehicles to help reduce the effects of whip lash in the event of an accident and how this may effect the installation of replacement DVD headrests, are findings are as follows:-

Should I Install Universal DVD Headrests To My Car Active Headrests

If your vehicle has active SRS safety restraint active headrests and you are contemplating replacing these with universal Car DVD headrests such as these, it can be achieved. It goes without saying (but I will say it anyway), that your vehicle manufacturer would certainly not encourage you to have this done as you will potentially lose this very important safety feature which in turn could effect your vehicles manufacturer warranty.

Active SRS Headrests – The Benefits

Some of the biggest injury risks in an impact situation result from the sudden, jerking movement of the head and neck. The SRS Active Headrest system has been designed to help reduce these risks by supporting the head at exactly that moment when it’s most needed. Within 20 milliseconds of an impact being detected, the Active Headrests are pushed forward to reduce sudden head movement, gently helping to prevent neck injury.

By-passing The SRS Active Headrest System

If your decision is to bypass your vehicles SRS system and install aftermarket universal DVD headrests such as these or OEM quality vehicle specific products such as the Rosen DVD headrests, you would require to unplug the SRS connection at the back of your seats and fit a resistor across the solenoid pins to avoid your SRS warning light appearing on your dashboard display. If you decide to proceed, is imperative that you install the appropriate ohm level of resistor to prevent setting off the SRS feature prematurely. You can find some additional information in a discussion started here on the BenzWorld.org forum.

Active Headrest DVD Entertainment – An Alternative Solution

If you are reluctant to remove this SRS feature, as you will see from the picture below, Parkmyauto Ltd can provide an alternative solution to the universal replacement DVD headrests by building and attaching an almost perfect factory fit Pod that will match your leather interior and colour and which incorporates two professional fit 7″ TFT LCD high quality monitors.  As we are utilising your existing vehicles headrests the SRS active headrest safety restraint feature is not compromised and will operate as normal.

Parkmyauto Professional Fit DVD Headrest Monitors

We build 2 headrest pods in matching leather surround (as if it came from the factory) and in each pod we install a 7″ TFT headrest screen / monitor. The screens have two video inputs to allow you to attach two AV sources ie, TV tuner and DVD changer. They come with 2 x RF (Radio Frequency) wireless headphones channel A & B. If you then want to add a 3rd AV source such as a PS3 then we would again require an AV switching box. Price on the Pro Fit Headrest Kit including headphones and monitors excluding AV sources and before installation is £890.00.

This professional headrest installation option is currently available for the following vehicles:-

BMW Hard Back Safety Headrests 3 & 5 Series, X5 And X6,

Mercedes GL / ML & R-Class, Mercedes S-Class (pre & post 2008), Mercedes CLS / E-Class(pre & post 2008), Mercede C-Class (pre & post 2008)

Range Rover Sport And Vogue

Porsche Cayenne

VW Tourag

What Options Do I Have

It is pretty certain that most headrests in brand new vehicles will have the SRS function so you have four options:-Option 1Dissconnect the SRS (manufacturer may not be happy) and put something like theseuniversal headrests (standard pillow shape), which we can have re-covered to match your interior exactly. These will give you 2 x dvd players, 2 x games controllers and 2 x wireless headphones. one DVD player will be linked to the other monitor to allow the kids to watch the same movie on both screens. We would require to have a sample of your leather to match up.Cost for these would be £515.00 including Vat and shipping.

Installation would be £140.00 cash.

Option 2

Leave the SRS intact and remove your headrests for about 5 days were we will build 2 little pods (in matching leather) onto your existing headrests – they are beautiful and the BMW factory would be proud of them. This will give you 2 x pods, 2 x professional fit headrest 7″ TFT / LCD monitors and 2 x wireless headphones. You would then decide upon what AV sources you would like to add onto these for example a DVD changer (fitted in the boot), 2 x separate DVD players, PS3, TV tuner etc.

Costs for 2 x Professional Fit pods + DVD changer + TV tuner (including USB input for downloading films on a USB stick) would be £1,240.00 including Vat and shipping

Installation would be £180.00 cash.

Option 3

Leave the SRS intact and fit these rosen AV7700 dual DVD piggy back pods. These will give you 2 x dvd players, 2 x games controllers and 2 x wireless headphones. one DVD player will be linked to the other monitor to allow the kids to watch the same movie on both screens. They incorporate USB and SD card inputs as well as giving you the opportunity of adding additional AV sources such as a digital TV tuner (£220.00). These may well be fully portable in that you could take them and use them on your next new vehicle.

Cost for these would be £895.00 Including Vat and shipping.

Installation would be £140.00 cash.

No need to be concerned about the installation as we can arrange this locally either at your place of work or at home.

Hi Glenn and thank you for your questions.

If possible get the car in and take off the back of the seat, if there is a cable attached to the headrest it is active. If not, you can go with universals or build a pod as you have done before. If it is active the choice is to put a resistor across the plug or go for my Pro Fit Headrest monitors (something like these for your porsche

      Kindest regards Russell (0131 555 7040)

Do you ship these to Australia?

Andrew Asks Do you ship these to Australia?

G’d day to you Andrew and thank you for getting in touch.

I am not entirely sure if we can make them just for you to then attach them to the back of your headrests, I will check on Monday and get back to you.

We generally get our customers to remove them and send them to us we then supply and fit the monitors and put the cables inside the headrests pole for neatness, send a couple of wireless headphones and then send them back to you. Each monitor has 2 x AV inputs so you then decide which AV sources to use ie PS2, PS3, DVD Changer, TV tuner, etc.

      Kindest regards
